REVIT MEP and archicad import or link or IFC Export or ? ? ? - Suggestions

Gretings,

Any suggestions on how best to work with a non-Revit architect file on a new project we are starting ?  We are doing the plumbing only design in Revit  MEP 2011.

This project architect uses ArchiCAD and sent us his export to AutoCAD (3D) file. He will eventually use Navisworks to assimulate all the misc. consultant files.

What doesn't work:

- importing or linking the AutoCAD model. It comes thru litterally soild - can't do  sections at all - only elevations of the solid model.

What seems to work:

- exporting AutCAD to IFC & then import into a new Revit file. Will probably then link this file to our plumbing Revit file. A lot of work but ....

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions to share.

Thank you,

Jim Morel

JMC

ArchiCAD should be able to export to IFC, which you can then open in Revit, save as an .rvt file then link in to your file.
