Revit 2012 - Re-tagging Equipment

Is there a way to prevent Revit from assigning new tag values to equipment / air terminals that have been pasted into the model from the clipboard?

Thanks.

As an example, the project utilizes both fan powered (TUFP) and non-powered (TU) VAV boxes. We have several instances where both type of boxes share the same mark such as TUFP-12-1 and TU-12-1.

When the contents of the model is copied into a new project, Revit will rename one of the boxes sharing the same mark number to something like TU-16.

How can I prevent Revit from doing this?

The Mark Parameter is really not good to use to identify equipment. I would highly recommend using a Shared Parameter or a Project Parameter instead. This system parameter has a special behavior and Revit will automatically assign a unique Mark value to any new elements, including those created by the Copy/Paste method.

There is some more information about the Mark Parameter in this previous thread:
