Reference Level Parameter question

Ok so on some things like pipes and ducts there is a parameter called reference level. This parameter seems to be dynamically populated with the levels in each revit project. If you select a new level from a drop down, the item will jump to that level. My question is this: Is this parameter something that you can incorporate into a family so that you can select a specific point in a family and say, "this plane right here needs to align to a selected level via the reference level parameter"? Thanks!

My understanding to your question is to control the default elevation when inserting the family into the project. If it is correct, you could add a parameter in elevation view to control it. However, it won't directly link with the level setting in the project. You need to specify the height to place it properly.
