Propagate Extents for Grids

Could someone please explain to me how to propagate the extents of all my grid lines. I have 4 floors with 3 different areas and I really don't want to have to redo every little grid line. I just want it to look the same from 1st Floor area C to 2nd Floor Area C and I don't want to have to more or check any more bubbles.

Please and Thank You!

Carrie

The following help topic has information on using the Propagate Extents command:
Propagating 2D Datum Extents
http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Revit/enu/2012/Help/Revit_User's_Guide/2654-Tools_an2654/2849-Datum_Ex2...

If you are having difficulties selecting all the Grids in your view, you can draw a selection box over the entire view, and then use the Filter command, to only select the Grids.

Note: The Propagate Extents command may not open if the Grid extents cross the crop boundary. To allow the command to open, un-crop the view before clicking Propagate Extents.

I think my problem was the grids crossing the crop boundry. I have it fixed now. Thanks

I was wondering why my propagate extents doesnt work.  I need to turn off the crop boundary!  That is the dumbest thing ever!

Hi,

Is it  possible to use this toll on a dependent wiev and not the whole floor plan, I want to use it on a dependent view which is croped to a scope box.

For example: I want to organize my grid extents on 10 dependent views showing my first floor, then copy this extrent to all my other dependent views on all other floors.

I can only manage to do this on the entire floor and not for each idividual dependent view on that floor.

Is there a way to propagate each idividual dependent view setup for the grid-extent? ( see attached image)

(Im Swedish so please dont mark my crapy spelling 😉

I am having the same issue for area plan views that are split up for scale reasons. On our overalls with area scope boxes we cannot propagate even with cropped regions turned off. It would probably work if we only used crop boxes but that defeats the purpose of making enlarged views with matchline that can be copy monitored for other trades. If autodesk could chime in on the issue that would be great.

It sounds like your configuration is different from Carrie’s.

Are the grid lines associated with the scope boxes? (a Screencast video would help in understanding what you are seeing).

Propagate extents should work for cropped views! I have 20 interior elevations on one sheet, and now I have to adjust each grid line manually so it doesn't intersect with the title line. If I uncrop them then they all overlap and are almost impossible to read, let alone edit. According to Autodesk, "The particular situation of applying the Propagate extents tool to cropped views is not yet documented." THIS IS WRONG!

Yes, you can use Propagate Extents on a Dependent view. Before you swipe over all of your grids, go to Properties and uncheck "Crop View" box. Then swipe over all of your grids, hit Filter and make sure that only your grids are selected. Next, click on Propagate Extents. You will know it worked if another dialog box pops up and asks you to select all the floors that you want this to be applied to. If you notice that one of your floors are missing, it's b/c you still have the Crop View checked in Properties.
