Pipework stress analysis?

Does anyone have experience exporting a Revit pipework model for stress analysis?

What did you use?

How did it go?

Can the ADSK format be used for this purpose?

What if the model contains linked 3D autoCAD pipes (it does)?

Any and all comments or experiences welcome.

Ok, no one has an idea, so Autodesk, is there any Pipe Stress addin programs in the rumor-mill that I can look forward to?

It looks like good software for CFD, but it doesnt do stress analysis on the actual pipework.

Stress analysis is when you assum all the worst case design conditions of temprature, pressure, and flow. Add in extenal factors such as wind load, earthquake load, and pipe support resistance.

Then calculate the stress on the pipe wall, welds, flange bolts etc, to prove they wont fail under these conditions.

Its a legal requirement here for installations that exceed a certian hazard rating.

In the end we subcontracted that part of the design to a microstation company, which was painful in more ways than one.

Thats probably what our subbie used.

The output was good quality information, but we had to pay them to remodel the entire system in another package. This and knowledge transfer accounted for most of the cost of the analysis.
