Network Connection Speed

Good Morning,

The specs for Revit mention wanting gigabit to the desktop. If some users have 100MB connections will it be a major perfomance issue with Revit? Will it only affect those rendering or viewing in 3D? What about users working on much smaller pieces of the database?

Thanks,

Fam

We have been studying ways to increase Revit (2009) efficiency over our network. Network speed is a small part of the equation, and you can test this theory easily (and see if you have choke points) by opening the file on the server and then copying all the files locally (and creating a new central file locally) and timing the opening of the file. What we were seeing is a difference of less than 5 seconds on opening and saving to central.

It appears that a lot of the time opening large files is involved with internal processing (prepping the display of the database) and not the file transfer - unless we were going over a slow connection (<10MB).

Thanks for sharing that info!

Novell....it does a server good!
