Navisworks & Revit Translation

Hi All,

We are a consulting firm, mechanical & plumbing engineering.  We use Revit and AutoCAD.  We do NOT use or own the Navisworks software... I need to know something.  If a contractor is hired to do field measurements of an existing building system & they do that in Navisworks then we are asked to convert that into Revit for our design, is that going to work?  Will the Navisworks files benefit us at all?  Can they be translated into Revit files?  Will we be able to read duct/pipe offsets or will the show up as generic models?  Has anyone had this experience before?

Thanks!

Jess

In Navisworks, one can add annotations to the model, and even 'transform' elements to move or rotate them.  There is a free viewer which may be used to view the modified model and its annotations... but it is not possible to 'convert' this to Revit, so it would be a matter of 'picking up' the redlines from Navisworks and modifing your revit model(s).

You may wanto to discuss with the Contractor how they propose to communicate this information in the Navisworks file, get your hands on the free viewer, and see how the process would work for you.
