Light Fittings and IES

I am creating a new light fiiting.
Under the family types I can apparently enter an ies data file name. However when I enter a file path under the formula heading (the only field I can enter data into) I get the error meassage "the following is not a valid family parameter"

Does anyone know how to use this parameter?

Hi Guzilla -

The trick here is to enter the data file name and the file name only. You
can't include a path (which is what the error message you are getting is
about). There is a line in the Revit.ini file that points to where the IES
files are expected to be, but if you took the default installation options
that path will be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\Revit Systems\IES (please note that Application Data is set to
hidden by default).

To get this to work you'll need to place the IES file that you want to use
in this folder and then enter the IES file name (without the extension) in
the IES Data File Name parameter.

Thanks for that, however this does not work for me.
Firstly my revit.ini file does not have the line pointing to the IES file locations. (see attched file, I had to rename it to a .txt to upload)
The directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\Revit Systems\IES does not exist.
(All my paths show Revit Building by the way)

The only reference to IES on my system is under the Accurender\support directory.

Any other ideas? In case it has to do with my installation options see below:

Please note that I am located in Australia and are using Revit 9.0 building series. Upon installation I installed that following content only:
Australian Extentions
APAC
Archvision
Web Library
Accurender

I did NOT install
EMEA (don't even know what it is)
South Asia extensions
Sigapore Extensions
North America imperial
International Metric
New Zealand extensions
English tutorials

All help is sppreciated.

Hi Guzilla -

I think the primary problem is that you are using Revit Building and this
parameter is for use with Revit Systems. The IES Data File is used only in a
room calculation for lighting fixtures to determine the estimated
illumination level based on the lumen method and provides no functionality
in Revit Building.

What were you hoping to accomplish by adding this information to a lighting
fixture (fitting)? Was the primary use for rendering or was it something
completely different?

That's a pity, if I could have used it would have been great!

The intention was for rendering as there are several lighting manufacturers who provide 3D models with IES data. They usually provide a much better rendered image as they are more accurate and also give a better idea of what the final outcome/ light distribution is like. I have used it quite effectively in the past with 3ds Max.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have any idea what the IES samples in the accurender/support directory are?
