Insulation on ducts & pipes

When defining an insulation thickness along a duct system, it seems I must select the ducts, and then define the insulation thickness in the “Element Properties” dialog box. Then select the duct fittings, and define it separately. Can I do it in just one step? Also, it seems that there is no insulation possible for piping fittings (elbows) - something about the elbows family? At last, is there a way to apply a pattern to insulated ducts (and fittings), so when viewing in plan, elevation or section, these insulated ducts can be easily distinguished from non-insulated ducts or pipes?
