Grips on custom family in section

I have created a custom family (dado trunking) and added a length parameter, all works fine when inserted into my plan view, with grips appearing ok to allow me to extend/stretch the family.

However when I create the same family but in the vertical direction to run 'up' my wall I cannot get the grips to appear.

I can insert the part in the vertical fine and modify its length with the properties menu, but no grips appear?

Can you get grips to appear on a part that has dimensions and parameters added in 'front' view in the family editor. Hope this makes sense.

It 'should' work. But have you considered using a line-based family? You can then use the same family for horizontal and vertical runs. Attached is a sample one I knocked up a while ago, its a ladder but could easily be adapted to work as trunking. As its line based, it can be 'drawn' on a face or workplane.

Thanks for the info and attached files Simon.

I will now use the line based option to allow me to model in all planes as suggested. I was unaware there was a line based family.
