Duct modified in wrong direction

I can model a large amount of ductwork with no problems, but Revit sometimes gives an error of 'duct 2has been modified in the wrong direction causing connections to become invalid.

All I am trying to do is simply shorten or lengthen the duct as attached in 'red'.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

I usually get this message when I try to move a piece of duct, and because revit is moving the attached fittings with that piece of duct, some other piece of duct maybe not even on my screen gets adjusted down past a zero length.  Your image doesn't really seem to indicate the same situation though.

Yes in this situation I cannot see what the problem is, restarting the software has been the only solution or redrafting the piece of duct which works on occasion.
