Is it possible to work from another location in Revit and return to the office to bring that work in to the model that everyone else has been working on in the office? There are users that might have to be away from the office and not be able to work over a network but can locally. I wonder if it's even an option?

It is possible, but not recommended - it can be a potentially risky method. In order for a user to work "offsite", he will have to take all of the necessary permissions with him, that is, he will have to check out the appropriate Workset(s) not just for the model elements (user-created Worksets), but the Worksets for the Views and other type of elements as well. The other Worksets can be seen in the Worksets dialog by checking the various boxes at the bottom. While the user has these Worksets checked out, no other user will be able to manipulate anything on those Worksets until the permissions have been returned.
See Revit Help for more information on Working Offsite and Offline
Consider carefully, and if you choose to take this route, create a test project first to experiment and get and idea of how to go about this. One of the best methods of testing may be to disconnect a computer from the network in order to simulate "offline", and a laptop would be ideal. Be sure to include a sample linked model if your company routinely links architectural models.
