I second this. I have been working on creating MEP content for our company
and these backups get annoying, especially when going in to make a small
change to a family. With all our family files on a network, deleting files
is absolute (not entirely but its not easy to recover them) so great care
has to be taken when deleting backups.

I would like to see Revit have the ability to specify the location of
back-up files. When working with 20 family files, and minimizing the number
of back-ups to only 3, that is still 80 files in a single folder. Since the
back-up files are named relatively the same one must pay attention to select
the correct file to delete.
I am sure that most of us use networks for our files, and putting back-up
files in a central location would make it much easier to maintain network
memory size, more specifically the size of individual project folders file
sizes.
