Wing Walls Wont Dimension Properly

In my model, I have some wing walls that extend further out then the rest of the walls. The wall is set so that it has the exterior material, such as sht'g, finish, etc wrapping at ends. The problem that I am running into is that Revit is not allowing me to dimension to the end of the core material. I can dimension to the material faces, but nothing else. See attached image for more info. Any ideas on what to do?

sorry, i have to ask the obvious...
have you tried using tab or (warning>enter work around<)
aligning and locking a short reference plane to the location and
dimensioning to the ref. plane?

Brian,

Yep, I have done both. Tab does nothing, even if I have the prefer to "Face of Core". What I have done as a work around is use a thin line, move it to the location that I want to dimension, dimension that line to the face of finish, lock the dimension, then I delete the dimension, but keep things constrained so that if I do stretch the end of the wall, the line will move with it. I just wish Revit could do this but I have not been able to get it to work.
Is this the work around for now?

You can also try using a reference line, locked to the endpoint of the wing-wall, and then dimension to that.

same problem...NO solution for the moment...you can put a reference plane
but it's not a productive way to use the software.

This is a known issue, I would just dim to the finish in this case and add a sufix to the dim saying the dim is to the finish and let the framer to a little math.

What I ended up doing is that I would draw a thing drafting line, move it back from the finish edge to the edge of core, dimension from the line to the face of finish, delete the dimenion (but keep it conmstrained. I don't want to see the small dimension value) and then dimension as needed to the line. It works. Also when I stretch the wall end, since the line is constrained, It will update the dimension. Hopefully it will get fixed by 2015!
