wheel on mouse will not zoom

Hello, i have a problem with my wheel on my mouse, on my
previous computer revit would zoom and pan with the wheel
and pan by clicking on the wheel like autoCAD but since i got
my new computer with new side scrolling wheel and thumb buttons this function does not work, do i need to get a new mouse or is there a way to make this pan and zoom like i am used to?

I had this happen when i upgraded to a new computer& mouse. It was not a revit issue, it was the mouse. I tried downloading a new driver for the mouse but that didn't work on my computer (it worked on other computers at my office). I ended up just using my old mouse and everything zoomed and scrolled fine.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse and check your settings for your
scroll wheel. I had to play around with mine to find the right setting. If
you could post what type of mouse you have, maybe someone has the same one.

What is the brand? logitech, microsoft, no name, etc. If it is a particular
brand download the latest drivers and software for your mouse and make sure
the settings are set to run in default windows mode.

if you go in to the mouse settings you will find an area that indicates you can select specific applications to take the settings (I.E Revit 9.1)from that specific application in order to make it zoom properly. I hope this helps. My mouse is a different model than the one you describe but it should work!

Set the dell mouse settings to generic or windows default buttons.

Did you assign it to be the middle button in the mouse controls? Once I did that it worked fine on mine.

If you go in to Control panel - Add/remove programs and remove the dell mouse application, you can zoom and pan with the scroll wheel.

I have a similar problem.

I use a Logitech mx610. I have narrowed the probelm down to the following scenario:
If I zoom with the mouse wheel, it will zoom.
If I hold down the mouse wheel (middle button), it will pan.
If I hold down the mouse wheel (middle button) and CTRL, it will zoom.
If I hold down the mouse wheel (middle button) and SHIFT, it will spin.
And after all the above it will still zoom with the mouse wheel.

NOW, if I hold down SHIFT and roll the mouse wheel even a little bit, it permanently changes the mouse wheel to scroll.
The only way to reset it is to close and re-open Revit.

I have the latest Logitech drivers.

I am saying "Revit bug"

go in to the mouse control panel, and set up an "exclusion" for Revit.exe.
I think there is an option for something like this with a logitech mouse.

I have the same mouse and the same problem. everything works fine with the mouse except when I hold down shift and scroll at all within a Revit 3D view. If I do that the scroll function locks itself and the zoom function no loger works.

You don't have to close Revit though, just the view. Open the view back up after closing and everything works again. It is definately related to the specific view and not program wide.

I don't see anywhere to set up an "exclusion" for Revit in the mouse software. Not sure if this will ever be fixed or what causes it. Too bad because I like the mouse.

I just bought the same Dell optiplex745, you are right I like the mouse also. I found a fix. Go to the MS web page, download the microsoft intellipoint intellimouse explorer 4.0 driver.

Turn off the dell mouse driver by right clicking on the icon (lower right corner of the screen).

Load the MS driver

select "autoscroll" for the wheel button.

go to the scrolling tab and turn off horizontal scrolling.

This worked for me on ADT 2006.

good luck !

I have several HP notebook computers with docking stations and the wireless keyboard and mice that come with the docking stations from HP. The mice do not support any function other than zooming with the scoll wheel and there is no specific driver or interface for the mice that allows me to set the scroll wheel. Any one know of a work around short of using a different mouse with the wireless keyboard. It sure is conviennt to use only one USB port for both devices.

Did this problem ever get resolved? This problem is running rampant through our office right now. We're all using Revit 2010, with Logitech and dell mice. All updated drivers.

No problems here with zooming with a  Logitech G5
mouse and Revit 2010 nor any with 2009 either.

wow a lot of mouse talk on this thread..

no wonder my cats are staring at my

We have no problem with zooming either - the problem occurs as stated above: When you orbit around a model, you hold the shift key and middle mouse button. Sometimes in a frantic zooming/orbiting session, I scroll while still holding the shift key. When I do this, the screen scrolls as if you're scrolling in a word document, and it seemingly 'sticks' the shift key. Major pain.

Any suggestions, other than "Don't scroll while shifting!" And, does this happen on your machine?

Thanks
