"Mastering Autodesk Revit Building" by Paul F. Aubin. You can get it on

I noticed on the reviews at Amazon that it was written for Revit 8. Does it still make sense to get it since I am using 9 and X is coming out soon?

I'm using it with 9.1 and haven't noticed any glaring omissions so far.

It's very good at getting you started in a disciplined way, plus he throws in really useful tips and asides en route - I prefer his order of telling you things to the order used in the official Autodesk 'essentials' training courses (or at least the agenda of the one I'm going on soon 😉
