wall phasing relative to wallopening

Hi,

I am trying to establish why a wall, created in the existing phase, with no openings, phased as existing reports the area as the product of its length and height correctly   (call it Area X) ,  but when a window or a door is insrted in a future / the next / proposed phase, (even if a Duplicate is made of the wall for visual comparison / testing purposes) ,  the Existing Wall, now shows the wall Area X - area of openings.

Why dooes it not show Area X in the existingphase, and Area X-  area of any openings created in the proiposed / a future phase ? It seems at odds with the whole idea of phasing and reporting.

I'dd like to know the reason and if possible, the technical reason if that differs from the User reason / workflow.

thanks
