Voids not showing up

Good morning everyone -

I'm working in Revit 6.0 (I know, looking to upgrade to subscription
soon). I'm trying to make a pocket door. Have downloaded one from
somewhere (I think Revitcity - thanks!) and the void in that one works
beautifully.

I'm trying to make my own rather than use that one, but my voids are
simply not showing up. They aren't cutting anything, except the trim I
have made. I've tried deleting the opening and tried keeping the
opening. Still no luck.

I've also tried just putting a void into a plain old wall in a project
and it just doesn't cut the wall. Is this a property of walls - voids
won't cut them? Or is it a problem with my laptop /RAM / etc. because
I've tried putting a couple of voids in a wall and one is visible (but
not cutting) and one is not even visible till I select the other void,
then the second one pops up, though still not cutting anything.

Am I simply missing a display setting?

I had been running my laptop with 1 GB RAM, but had to go back to 512MB
because Windows XP kept freezing/crashing when I tried to hibernate.
Haven't reloaded my system since so there may be hardware issues here.

Thanks for any advice.

Chris

Once you make the void, it will show up as an orange box when highlighted, you need to use the "cut geometry" tool to pick the wall then the void, that will cut the void shape out of the wall. You will then use the don't cut tool to "uncut" your trim. Note you can't use both openings and voids to cut a wall.

Thanks again -

I forgot about the cut geometry command. That did the trick!

Its amazing! I am a college student and I had the same problem that Chris was having, Its 2011 and your post from 2006 help me a lot. I learned something that my teacher didn't even know, so thank you for answering my problem.
