Visibility Settings of Profile Lines not working

Hello.

I'm working on a Profile Family,
to be designated as the Profile for a Curtain Wall Mullion Type.

I've set some of the Profile Lines, within the Profile Family;
to *not* be visible at "Fine" Detail Level;
but when used in a Project, the Profile lines remain visible at Fine.

Can anyone suggest the correct way to get the Visibility Settings to work
properly?

Thanks!

here's an excerpt from:
Revit Architecture Families Guide (2010)>>Creating A profile Family

6. To specify the detail at which the profile family displays in the
project, select any of the lines of the profile sketch, and click Modify
Lines tab>Visibility panel>Visibility Settings.

7. Select the desired detail levels (Fine, Medium, or Coarse), and click OK.
Tip: You can specify the detail level for detail components using the same
methods.
Next, define the profile usage.

that's what I did,
but the Profile Lines are not responding to the detail level settings.

Is it possible for you to post the family file? Then perhaps someone can
trouble shoot the file itself to see what the issue might be.

Ok, Jeff. Here you go.

I've attached a simplified RVT Project, and also the Profile Family that I'm
using for the Mullion at the head of the Curtain Wall. Examine the "Section
1" view of the RVT Project, to see what I'm talking about. At Fine Detail,
I'd like the Generic Mullion Profile to *not* be visible, and the DWG Import
Manufacturer's detail to take its place. The DWG Import behaves as
advertised, but the RVT Profile Lines do not.

Couple of things going on here.

First the documentation in the Families guide is incorrect. The edges
defined by the profile family CAN't be toggled with visibility settings. A
profile family is just used as a "premade" sketch for generating geometry.
The model element is generated from that profile. the only way at that
point to control visibility of the element created is by it's category. You
can't control the visibility of individual edges/faces of the element.

So in your example the rectangular mullion (model element) is causing a
heavier edge to appear around the mullion when cut' You can override the
graphics of the mullion category or of the element itself in the view where
you are seeing it.

The other heavy lines (on the inside and outside edges of the mullion) are
being caused by the settings of the DWG import. You can change the way
these display in the visibility and graphics of the view. You can chang
ethe display there to be what you would like it to be.

Hope that clears it up a bit for you. I will make sure to file a defect
against the 2010 Families Guide to correct the portion about the profile
visibility settings.

Jeff,
thanks for clarifying that - I thought I was going crazy...

Not a big deal to hide that linework in the View, when desired;
but I wanted to be sure there wasn't a way to automate it based upon Detail
level.
(I strongly suspected that there was not, but it never hurts to ask..)

yes, *those* lines are intentional.
