I built a basic facade system as a family in Revit 2012, but the materials won't stick. Every time I try to edit the family and assign a material, the material doesn't show up in the Revit file it's loaded into. Then, when I open the family back up to try editing it again, the material that I assigned to it five minutes ago is already reset to default, despite my saving and reloading it several times. How do I fix this?
From the sound of it, the material in the project doesn’t match the material in the family. You have a material default set to a brown color and wood texture in the family. If I load the family in a new project using the out of the box architectural template, the family comes in with a grey color, since those are the graphics properties for that material in that template.
However, if I use transfer project standards to transfer that default material from the family to the project, then whatever the material that is assigned under Materials and Finishes > Wood shows the same in the project as the in the family.
If I set the Wood parameter to Poche in the family, then the material looks correct when loaded in the New project since that template has a Poche material that has the same graphics properties.
I’ve attached a video. Please let me know if this resolves the issue.
