titleblock question

I have a question about creating a new title block for our company. I have
looked at the sample title block that comes with Revit, and it appears that
the sheet number text etc is nothing but a simple text item. Is this true?
And if so, how does the program associate and change the number when it is
changed in the project directory etc. This is all very confusing to me, and
is something that I definately need to understand and do before I can even
think of starting a project in Revit.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The sheet number isn't a simple text object - just looks like one. The sheet
number is called a label - it references what is called a parameter. When
you change that text, it will update a schedule of the drawing list. Or
change the schedule and it will change the sheet.

OK, I figured there was more to it then that. So, how do I set up such a
'label' on a new sheet? I haven't been able to find much help or a tutorial
on how to set up a custom titleblock from scratch.

DO you have an understanding of Revit families & Parameters?
If not TRY THIS SIMPLE TRICK.

a.) Import your company titleblock and explode it in revit.
b.) Change the line work to what suits you
c.) In another session of revit, edit the default sheet and copy paste the "Sheet Number"into your title block.
d) play around with it and get your understanding strong.
e) Now create your own parameters

TRY it, its fun

You should take a look at this site

www.revittv.com

They have a pretty neat drawing manager for revit....
