Yes, you are doing it correctly, and if you open some of the casework that
comes with Revit, you'll see it's the same way. Remember, you don't have to
'draw' the lines over again, you can use the "pick" tool and simply pick the
solids where you want symbolic lines. If a 'hidden' linetype is not
available, go to Settings >Linetypes, and create one.

From what I gather symbolic lines only show up in the view you draw them in.
So what i'm doing is creating a casework library for my projects. I model
them in Revit, define all the parameters that need adjustablilty, and
disable the visibility of the model objects in plan.... but visible in every
other view (I want to eliminate as much linework as possible). Then I draw
symbolic lines in plan to represent the casework outline. I have a eat-in
counter that the countertop extends say 12" out. I want to show the cabinet
line below as hidden but I cant seem to find a hidden line option when
drawing symbolic lines. Can this be done?
Also, as I explained above how I am creating my casework... is that the
proper way to do it or is there a simpler way? I am basically drawing it
twice, actually modeling the casework and then drawing the symbolic lines in
2D. I dont know if I am doing more than is needed by adding the 2d lines in
plan or is that how most of you normally do it?
TIA!
