OK, like I said, I'm really new to Revit. Now that's out of the way and all
the joking aside, is there a setting to turn in snapping and a grid like
AutoCAD. Also is there an equivalent to OSMODE in AutoCAD for Revit?

It's in between the Plane and Spell Check toolbar button, under the Save
button. It looks like a grid.

Have you done the "getting started" tutorial? It goes thru the program and would help you get started more than just trying blind.
