Section Cut Size & Locking Size to Symbol

This is a double question about Section Cuts.

1) is there a way to rejoin or lock the adjustment size box back to the symbol.  Below you can see I've circled items in question.

2) What determines the depth of a section cut when you first create them.  Sometimes they are only a few feet other times they go way out past the project.  Is there a way to control that?

Thank you

Scott...

Hello Scott,

Currently there is not a way to reset the view extents exactly to the section symbol.  This is determined from your two pick points when the section is created.  Are you trying to get it exact?  You can adjust the view crop region to be very close.

The other issue about the extents of the view when created.  The section extents is determined by the 3D extents of the model.

This is an area of improvement that has been logged for future work.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything on both questions.

Hi Scott,  I was able to find a workaround to your question about resetting the section crop back match the section annotation object.

Although there is not a way to automatically do this, you can use this workaround.

In plan view, cycle each of the section so either the tail or nothing is displayed at both ends

Place reference planes at each end of the section line

Activate the section and Edit the Crop Region

   Select Crop region|Ribbon|Edit Crop

Use Align to align the sketch line to the reference planes

Finish Sketch mode

Finally, back in the plan view, make your section head/tail appear as desired.

I've attached a video URL to show this method.

"This is an area of improvement that has been logged for future work."

What are we talking here, another couple of years? Another decade? 25 years? 50? WHEN?

Given that this dates form three-and-a-half years ago, and this very same issue was raised as major issue over ELEVEN years ago (google it - there are plenty of posts about this BUG from 2008! ELEVEN YEARS!) how much longer do we have to wait to be able to get our drawings looking neat & tidy?

It's not even fixable via the API!

Honestly now - did the guy who programmed the sections quit and no-one knows how the code works or something?

WHEN ARE WE GETTING A FIX FOR THIS - it costs us HUNDREDS of hours per year to keep drawings TIDY and READABLE - which are both vital aspects of building documentation.

Seriously - this is beyond a joke. ELEVEN YEARS!

You can create a scope box and associate the floor plan with it. Then, generate the sections from the site plan. Finally, return to the floor plan and link the sections to the scope box. This process should allow you to synchronize the section lengths with the scope box.
