i was wondering if in revit it has the same saving system as autocad 2006 where auto save automatically saves it in the C drive under the temp folder?

In response to your first question. No Autodesk Revit 8.1 does not have an automatic save feature like AutoCAD. It does have an automatic save reminder feature, which can be set to as short a time period as 15 minutes. This will pop up a message box to ask you to save your Revit Project.

The place to set this is under the Settings pull-down menu > Options > General tab - Notifications area "Save reminder interval:"

The backup file will be in the same directory with a name of :
MyProject.0001.rvt
All of the *.####.rvt files are backups created each time you save. You can
have up to 9999 backups. This is set through the File->Save As->Options. If
you are using worksets it is a little different because you have the central
file on the server.
