Safe to open student file?

Hi

(Originally posted in licensing/installation forum but thought may be more relevant here)...

I have a file created in a student version of revit. I now need to open that file to pull some info from it (dimensions, wall make up etc) so I can recreate the project in a commercial version. Is it safe to open the student file in my commercial version to get this info or will opening a student file brand my commercial revit software and other non-student files with the student watermark. (file created in revit 2011 / now using revit lt 2015).

Thanks

Thank you for your post.  In this case there are watermarks built into the Autodesk software’s, to manage the free student versions and commercial versions.  One of our AE's, Scott has posted about this in a prior forum and I have included his comments below on managing these waters.  Please refer to this and let us know in the community if you have nay questions.  Thank you and I hope this helps.

Scott's Post:

Opening a model, even a "commercial" model, in an educational version, is perfectly fine. What Autodesk does not want, is educational versions of software, which are freely available to students, being used for commercial purposes.

What you don't want to do, in Autodesk software prior to 2015 versions, is open that commercial file in an EDU version, save it, and then open it again on a commercial office machine and continue to work on it. in this case the file will be permanently watermarked.

So, do a SAVEAS, make a copy of your file, and then open in an EDU version. Do not reopen same saved file in a commercial version.

You said prior to 2015. So, after 2015, are there no watermarks in print (Autocad) or somehow file embedded inside Revit products?
