Rotated View on Sheet and Text problem follow-up

I have seen several posts about rotating a view on a sheet and the text not remaining readable.

I have seen the posts that say to rotate the view then add text... What if you didn't plan that far ahead - are you just stuck?

Is there any new developments on this?

I have a client who needs to be able to this without having to rotate all the text in the project.

Thanks!

LD

There is not a quick way to rotate all of the text in a view at one time. You could quick selet all of the text in the view and rotate all at once but then all of it would share a common center of rotation. You realy need each element to have its own center of rotation. Once the view is rotate the text can be rotated using the rotate "gizmo" displayed whenthe text is selected. rotating the text with the gizmo will at least automatically snap the text to the horizontal or vertical direction. I can't think of a way to do this without the need to either rotate or move the indovidual text elements AFTER the view is rotated.

Okay - I have attached an image from my client - The problem they are having is the text on the left -

the view is placed on a sheet and rotated... When they put text in it is rotating as you can see on this image that it is rotating in an odd way.

They are wondering if this is a bug...

Any thoughts?

Lisa

Looks like it might be related to the "keep readable" instance parameter. They could try toggling that setting and then rotate the text and see if they get a better result.

Below is their response...

It does not change anything in the parameters location; although, I did some blog research and found that it might be within the family itself. I can't find where that family is located. Do you know? Its not in the typical family location.

I am not sure what family they are referring too - do you?

No idea. The setting/instance parameter I am referring to is part of a basic text element. If the issue is with a tag, label, or text in a family then there might be another answer to the problem.

Hey Lisa,

Are you meaning that the user wants to rotate the viewport but the text to remain horizontal (ie not rotate)? If so, this is still a request item logged with development and has not changed in 2014.

Oh for cryin' out loud.  I don't even care if this is related anymore...

If I rotate a text box, it's masking box and outline become offset from eachother.  What gives?

Why am I dealing with yet another Revit Annotation headache?  Why is this our job? Why do you get to lay it on the users to create add-ons and fixes and finds.  Why can't you test your own junky software before releasing it.  Sony does it.  Xbox does it.  Atari did it.  What century are we living in?

This is our last subscription.  Revit has proven and remained a totally incomplete and incompetent program with way too much energy required to maintain it.   This stuff should be out of the box Autodesk.  Need I remind you the cost of these suites.  Small firms can't afford 100's of packages just to create a set of drawings becuase all you included was an un-orthoed dumpy looking pos chair.  Oh yeah, I forgot.  Autodesk doesn't write software.  They buy it, button it up and then sell it to a third party who in turn sells it to us.

Not that anyone at Autodesk could possibly know but as a side note, WHY HAS THIS ISSUE BEEN LOGGED WITH DEVELOPMENT SINCE 2014?  What the F are they doing over there?  Seriously.  How many developers does it take?  That's not a programming joke.  How big is the company?  Is this one of the best companies to work for because no one actually has to do anything?  None of the bugs are EVER fixed in new releases.  I feel like being a lot meaner but that's not what this is about.  I don't like finding we got ripped off every day that we use Revit.  It feels as unprofessional as I would like to be right now.

Not expecting an ounce of resolution on this so take it as you may.

@john.kinder

I usually would ignore such posts...but this one is an exception.

With regard to the problem you are having with rotating text box...

  1. I have to admit I had to scroll back and read the whole thread and it turned out not related!
  2. I wanted to upload a screencast to show you it is working perfectly well but then I thought better not as it might offend you. Then Again I thought; if you really have a software issue you would have elaborated on the problem rather than ranting. So either ways it doesn't appear like you care to get an answer

PS: There is no such thing as incompetent software very simply because software do not perform on their own...there can be incompetent humans who doesnt know how to use a software (regardless if that software is perfect or not)

Cheers,

I can't speak for others but I can speak for myself; I don't get paid for trying to help others but I do love doing it whenever I have the time to. However; I am selective...I prefer to help those who are worthy of being helped. The least, those who have a minimum level of respect and maintain a professional level of comunication. Read your post and think again which of the above criteria does it meet

As for a snapshot attached...I just hope there is a fortune teller on this forum who can tell what was behind your snapshot maybe then that FT can solve your issue. As far as I am concerned you may stick to Atari and Playstation and XBox as you deem those more reliable products

If a text object can be written in terms of a direction of the inclination angle it has been defined within the parameters of his family. But we do not see this parameter.
We have to wait for future updates on the developer of the program to show the angle of inclination parameter of the text object.
