Roof modeling - best practices?

Hello and Thank you,

I've reached the point in my FIRST Revit modle when I have to show how things will actualy get built and not just look from the outside, so when modeling a roof in Revit, what is the best way to proceed?

I know this is a broad and somewhat vague question, but my challenge is that the Revit roof tool is wonderful for Elevation Views and Roof plans, but is not very useful for Sections or details. Is there any way to model or modify the Roof element so that sections reflect reality?

I'm not just talking about graphic representation, but, e.g. if you model a hip roof using rafter construction in Revit (to achieve vaulted ceilings), Revit doesn't seem to realize that you will need a ridge post or some other supporting element to hold up the roof at the ridge/hip intersection. You can't just nail all the rafter ends together and hope it doesn't fall downSmiley Happy Just joking okay!

So my question really is this; how do the (you) experts go about documenting the design of a roof using Revit? In Autocad I would just draw the section view one line at a time, but that's not the Revit way.

Thanks and Aloha,

Shawn Graham

Designer.
