Revit Ribbon tabs out of order

I opened Revit today, and all of my ribbon tabs are out of order!

Question #1 Since the UI is non-customizable, how did this happen?
Question #2 Since the UI is non-customizable, how do I get them back in
order?

Have not installed anything recently. Restart of Revit and reboot of
computer have failed to fix. Would really like to NOT have to reinstall
Revit.

Tabs are currently in the following order:

1. Insert (normally 2)
2. Modify (4)
3. View (7)
4. Manage (8)
5. Add-Ins (9)
6. Home (1)
7. Annotate (3)
8. Massing & Site (5)
9. Collaborate (6)
10. Structure (10)

Get out of revit, and delete the UISTATE.DAT file in the
\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 folder. That
should reset the interface back to the default.

*Note: I would back up or rename the file first...

BTW, here's a VBScript by Harlan Brumm for resetting the UI

Thanks, Matt. I'll have to download from home this evening, as the
corporate antivirus software won't let me get there.

I also just found out from someone else in the office that if you hold
CTRL, you can drag the ribbon tabs around however you wish!

Um, yeah, well, there is that, if you want to take the short way around.

Not to incite you, but I'm starting to get used to the functionality of the new ribbon. I think it's only going to get better moving forward.

I did some testing on the tab behaviour and this is what I believe to be true when you close and re-open Revit (2014), after you moved your ribbon tabs around.

There 2 major factors involved in ribbon tab location.

  1. The 3rd party ribbon tabs for the non out-of-the-box Revit tools you have installed
  2. The location of the Modify tab.

All the 3rd party tabs will place themselves before the Modify tab.  If you have more than one 3rd party tab, the 3rd party tabs will order themselves in a particular order amongst themselves.  The 3rd party tabs will always be side-by-side in that ordained order.  I do not know what controls that order, but it is not according to the tab name

If there are more factors involved, I would like to know.

See this blog posting for more...

Each Revit add-in needs to create a *.addin manifest file in the addin folder, e.g. C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2014.

In my experience, Revit loads the addins according to the alphabetical order of the name of the *.addin file.

The loading order determines the tab order.
