Hi @wyatt1dawson and welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Autodesk software are not yet supported on Windows 10. We recommend waiting until the OS is fully supported before running Autodesk software on Windows 10. Please keep an eye on this page for updates.

Thank you,

Camilo Lemos

For what it's worth, I upgraded to Windows 10 today, and both Revit and Windows 10 are working with no problems.

A quick google of that .dll says that if you reinstall the Microsoft C++ Visual Studio Redistributable 2012 you should be back in business.  Here's a link to the download you need.

My guess is that there was a hiccup in the download/install process for Windows 10, and that file/package got corrupted somehow.

Hope that helps.

The problem is that Windows 10 upgrade will no longer be free by the time Autodesk resolve this problem and support it.

It isn't feasible to expect everyone to just wait for Revit 2017 and migrate all current projects. Even those of us on subscriptions and able to install a Windows 10 compatible Revit 2017 (assuming it will be when it comes out), we are collaborating with others on previous versions and need to run all versions concurrently whilst availing ourselves of the benefits of a free Windows 10.

Autodesk, please help!

The following instructions describe what works for us.

I have applied this on five installations so far, including two new computers supplied with Windows 10.

Note, this involves altering the registry, so you will need to get clearance by / help of your person responsible for IT.

Also note, this is not approved by Autodesk. Rather, it bypasses Autodesk’s intransigence towards the whole Windows 10 issue.

Let me know how you get on, or if instructions are not clear.

Many thanks to community user ar.zaher for sharing this solution for AutoCAD (applies to Revit too) http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-architecture-general/this-is-how-to-install-autocad-2015-to-wi...

Installing/Uninstalling Autodesk on Windows 10

When installing Autodesk on Windows 10, Autodesk can’t detect the NET Framework version 4.5 on the computer Windows is using version 4.6. Autodesk doesn’t acknowledge a later version.

You cannot re-install 4.5 as Windows 10 says that NET Framework is already part of the system.

The solution: change the NET Framework version value key in the registry so that Autodesk thinks it is working with version 4.5. Once installation has successfully completed and activated, change the version value key in the registry back to the correct value.

Run the Registry Editor as administrator. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client\"

Note the Version key value (to change back to later), e.g. “4.6.01038”.

Modify the value to "4.5" and close Registry Editor. If you get an “Error Editing Value” response, then you need to change the permissions (see below).

Install the Autodesk software, open it to check and activate it. Also, install any major addins  at this stage (just in case).

When happy with the installation, go back into the Registry Editor and change the NET Framework version back to the original value noted earlier.

To change ownership/permissions for the registry key value

In the Registry Editor, go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client\", right-click on the Client folder and select Permissions.

In the Permissions for Client box, click on Advanced.

In the Advanced Security Settings for Client box, at Owner, click on Change.

In the Select User or Group box, type in the username (i.e. the one you are logged in as and making changes with), and click on Check Names to bring up the object name, and then click OK.

Back in the Advanced Security Settings for Client box, click on Add.

In the Permission Entry for Client box, click on Select a principal.

In the Select User or Group box, type in the username (i.e. the one you are logged in as and making changes with), and click on Check Names to bring up the object name, and then click OK.

Back in the Permission Entry for Client box, tick the box for Full Control, and ensure that the Applies to dropdown is set to “This key only”, and then click OK.

Back in the Advanced Security Settings for Client box, click on Apply, then OK to close.

Click OK to close the Permissions for Client box.

You should now be able to edit the registry.
