Revit 2014 crashes on using Linework tool.

We have aproject where Revit will crash when the Linework tool is used.

It appears to happen when the Linework tool is used in a section view where an IFC created linked file is visible.

Tested a view with the link file turned off and no problems (tried both Visibility/Graphics link unticked, and then with workset unticked).

Make the linked file visible and BOOM, Revit crashes.

In a plan view with the same linked file visible didn't cause a crash.

This has happen in two separate project files (although the same project, one file stemmed from the other), but different Revit linked files created from different IFC files.

But both IFC files were exports from CAD duct.

Has anyone else had this problem?

It there anything we can do or is it just (another) example of revit badly handling IFC files.

Do you have Revit 2014 updated to at least update 2? Update 3 was just released, if you have not installed any updates I would recommend installing update 3 and test to see if the problem persists:

Updating may prevent the crashing.

Update 3 has been installed. This crash occurs on all computers that work
on the file.

When Revit crashes, does it produce an error message? What does the message say?

Error message is standard "do you want to save a recovery file" (attached)

So this is affecting multiple workstations? Are all workstations built to the same specifications (OS, graphics card, drivers, revit updates)?

Check to make sure all workstations are using certified hardware and graphics cards:

If the hardware meets specifications, all current drivers are installed, but the problem persists then try turning off hardware acceleration. If that does not work then let me know and I will need to contact you directly as the file itself could be corrupt.

Has happened on all workstations we tried it on.

The project is a joint venture so the computers are from 2 different offices, one uses Dell, the other HP.

It sounds like you may possibly have a corrupt project file, have you tried auditing the file? If you have and the error still occurs let me know, I may need to contact you directly and get that file from you to test it and attempt a repair.
