Is it possible to link the material of a nested familyobject to an parameter?

For example a nested family of Door, with a family Panel inside. It would be great if the user is selecting a glaspanel, that automatic the material of the panel will change in glassmaterial.

I do not think what you want is possible. Material parameters do not allow formulas.

What is possible, is to make different panel types. In your nested panel family you can make different types of panels, with different materials. This panel family with the different types you can load into the parent family. Herein you can make a type parameter which allows you to select for the different panels.

Attached a screenshot of such a type parameter (from "Doors_IntAys_2.rfa" in Auodesk UK Library).

In this family it is used to select different door handles.
