"Place Request" Button

When someone already has something checked out, exactly what does pressing the "Place Request" button do? I've already confirmed nothing happens at the offenders computer.

The button is there to humor me?

Here's the helpful help file info:
"Ask the other user to approve your request. The other user does not receive any automatic notification of your request."

HA HA HA HA HA HA
That is the most retarded misdirection I've ever seen.
What is the button there for then? Message was edited by: Discussion Admin

This means, strangely enough, that you actually have to converse with your team members.

A clcikable button does NOT imply "get up and talk to the person on the other side of the building."

The button suggests the engineers talked themselves out of implementing a feature and left this bizarre remnant.

I have nothing against talking to my teammates jack*ss. If it does nothing, the button is a classic software interface flub. It's probably hard for an apologist to see that.

I'll admit that this particular action has been on the Revit wishlist for some time. But in the scheme of things, I'd rather see developers working on more pressing things.
If you are unfortunate enough not to have telephonic equipment in your workplace, maybe try using semaphore.
There is always the upside of getting out of your chair, you'll probably end up burning off some of the lard that encompasses your ass.

This is really getting annoying having to filter through your rants to
actually find valid Q&A. If you can't handle the replies to your questions
here, go take a revit class and get your answers there.

AMEN! Brother!

He must be a real joy to work with if he treats people he asked for help this way.

OK. Rumbleseat, I'm never helping you with anything ever again.

I know you don't care, and that this doesn't matter to you.

But still. You're being really nasty, so I'm not gonna waste the time.

Yeah. The borrowing request sucks. So what? All software does. You pick
your poison. And will 8.1's borrow-as-you-go, you'll never need to use
it. Which you'd probably have heard about from someone by now, or read
about, if you'd done more than just complain and rant about everything.

This particular button records IDs of elements that user requests to borrow
for editing. When other user decides to grant pending requests only
requested elements and not entire workset will become editable. If you are
using 8.1 then do not make entire worksets editable, that will greatly
reduce the need for placing requests.

All I can say is that users with such behaviour should be banned from here.
Where have all the moderators gone??? Thos forum is to help each other not
compete in who can express their stupidity the most nasty way.

PLACE REQUEST generates a request that the other user can review via FILE > EDITING REQUESTS. Sorry, but it is up to you to tell them that they need to check.

Using Element Borrowing instead of checking out entire user created worksets will reduce this sort of conflict, as well as deciding who does what more frequently than most teams are used to.

Let me guess, you've never taken a Dale Carnegie class eh?

Yeah. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna take a break from the newsgroups
and such. Too busy to waste time here anymore anyways.
