Quick Drawing in Revit!

So Revit, for 3D design purposes, is excellent and will probably expand over the 5% usage the recent IT survey in bd's eArchitect supplement suggests. The question is; Can you throw a quick external structure together (similar to Microstation's linear form tool) that you can apply a render to a present or is it a case of creating your wall family first with the different panels and construction already predefined?
Advice would be greatly appreciated!
Paul
