Problem with getting started exercise

Hi Friends, I am trying to make my first project given in getting started booklet of the evaluation copy. The few problems are:

1- The getting started project does not give you detailed or comprehensive information as to how did they do it. Can anybody let me know good resource of Revit tutorials? Specially video tutorials. You-Tube has a few of them (hardly 4 or 5), but poor resolution is a mess. I am tired of Googling through it and nothing worthwhile as yet.

2- In this getting started project, I have reached at the roof plan. I have followed all given instructions but finally the roof has been cut out from the inner portion of the building and only the 3 feet extending roof appears. Not sure if I have made any mistake during trimming tool or finish roof steps.

You help will be much appreciated.

1. there are some great videos at www.dgcad.com Some are free, some others
you can buy.

2. The roof is being cut by a plan level. Its just the graphic display.
Just like a floorplan gets "cut" at a certain level, the roof is being
"cut". Look at it in 3D and it will be complete, with no hole. Move up to
a higher plan level to see the whole roof.

Hi Scott, many thanks for your help.

1- Note that I have already added a camera and have checked from all angles in 3d view, zoomed in and out and roof does not appear. Attached is screen shot named roof_problem.jpg.

2- The roof offset lines are in shape of plain rectangle but want to know if the roof lines should follow the shape of wall or not? See roof_problem.jpg extracted from the getting started tutorial.

3- Don't understand instructions regarding selection of South and West walls in step 2 and 3. I mean if you are creating your roof lines having a bird eye view, which one is South and which one is West? The elevation markers don't tell you about directions. I understand you should know at least one of these directions on your screen to ascertain the remaining 3.

Thanks a lot.

ahhh....looks like you have two "loops" in your sketch for the roof. One at
the border of the roof, and one at the walls. This is causing a hole in
your roof. You only need one closed loop sketch. Any sketch lines inside
of this will be a hole. This missing step when creating the "offset" sketch
line is to uncheck "copy" in the Options Bar along the top of the drawing
window in Step 3. You want to have only one continuous magenta line, offset
3' from your wall edges.
