In "Drafting" go to Detail lines to draw a line. If you want to create a new Line Style if the defaults do not work for you, go to your "setting" pulldown menu and choose "Line Style" to create new line types.

and selecting the Chain option in the options bar will draw "polyline"
style, connected end to end.

basically all lines/walls in revit that have ends that touch can act like polylines. you use the tab key to select a chain of walls or lines, then each endpoint has a node that lets you modify it. So create "polylines/poly walls" with the chain button checked. then use the tab key to select a chain.(you position your cursor over a wall or line and it prehighlights DONT click yet, the select TAB, you will see all the chain highlight, now CLICK.

the idea is that if I select one line then all the lines should be selected. But you are right I can select it by TAB selection

and you can slect a partial "chain' by clicking a segment of the line, then
hover over a segment farther down the chain, hit TAB and the piece of the
line between your cursor and the previous selected line should highlight.

I'm also searching for a polyline feature. This is what I need to do in AutoCAD terms: I want to polyline the footprint of my building so I can list it and get the perimeter information. This is my reason for wanting a polyline feature in Revit.
Is there another way?

Do you have a floor? You could select the floor and click "Properties"
to find the perim. of the floor. Or you could do the same with a
Building Pad.

The floor at grade is in 3 different pieces.
Floors above do not have the same perimeter as the grade level.

The pad idea works in this case.
However, I have another building thatthe first floor is stepped and divided in three sections.
I have anotehr building that where the first level is parking and has ramps going up and down. In this case I cannot use a pad either.

I would suggest using the area function. Properties dialog will list the perimeter once it's defined.

Hi, I've been using a the Region hatching tool.

1. Create a new type (by duplicating an existing patter or via manage tab>additional settings> Fill Patterns)

2. (Re)name it Polyline

3. Parameter = Value

Fill Pattern = Solid Fill [Drafting]

     Background = Transparent

     Line Weight = 1

     Color = White

4. Create the fill pattern with chosen linework, You can even chose <invisible> to give it that open-ended-polyline look.

Note:

1. Line length displays in Properties pallet during sketch mode by selecting individual lines (doesn't add them up when selecting all).

2. Fill area displays in Properties pallet after completing sketch by selecting the region.

Hope this helps!

To answer the (old) original question:

-Use Property Lines, then use a Model Line ( if it needs to appear in 2D and 3D views)  or Detail Line ( 2D Views only) with a style as required by your standards for Setbacks

-Then, using pick lines , select the Property Lines.

-Then, offset the Setback lines the proper distance from the Property Lines.

Hi can we use this method in views other than plan views? i.e. drafting view, sections, etc.?

Yes--you can use Pick Lines to draw lines in other views types.

So in a detail view, use the Property Line tool with Pick Line activated to create a polyline? i'm lost...

If it is really importat to keep the lines together. Create a group 😉

This has helped me tremendously.

1.In the "Modify" tab, create a new "Region" and call it Polyline.

2. In the "Edit Type" properties pallet, select ",No pattern>

3. Uncheck "Masking"

4. Click "Ok"

If you want to be able to select the line and not the field, in the "Annotate" tab, under the "Select" pull down arrow, uncheck "Select element by face"

What's great about his option is that one can easily change line types and thicknesses within the "polyline." instance.
