Plan Region Breaking 3D DWG bug?

Plan Region Breaking 3D DWG bug?

I have a project with some imported mesh geometry brought in by importing a 3D DWG into a generic family then loading it in.

The imported mesh geometry works perfectly, cutting in section and plan however once I introduce a plan region that touches the family(or if the family is within the plan region) with the imported mesh geometry it no longer cuts the geometry(in all plan views, it still works in section and 3D). And the cutting stops working on all families with imported mesh geometry universally even if not touching or in the plan region. Once the plan region is deleted, all the imported geometry starts cutting again. However, if the plan region is created and moved to not touch the imported geometry, it still doesn't solve the problem and doesn't cut. The only time it appears that imported 3D mesh geometry cuts is if there are no plan regions interacting with those families. The thing is that I really need to be able to use plan regions.

Is this a bug? Is it something I'm not seeing? Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone.

I have a similar problem where I imported a 3d cad file into a mass and then inserted it into my Revit model.

As soon as I created a "plan region" the mass was no longer being cut  and instead all elements of the mass were appearing on my plan, but other views were still fine.. As soon as I delete the plan region it goes back to normal.

Very frustrating not seeing any responses to this post. I'm using the current version 2015.

Still not fixed in 2017. Disappointing.

What's really disappointing is seeing an old thread dug up just for a complaint.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Here we are at Revit 2019! However in my case the file I imported was the issue. Was saved from Tesla as a dwg file. Ones I created from Acad worked fine.  No idea on anyone else having the issue.

Sorry to see you get really disappointed so easily, get up on the wrong side of the bed did you...

Whats truly disappointing is not seeing this bug fixed after all these years.

Clarifying my valid 'complaint' (FYI, also present in revit 2019):

  • 3D DWG or DXF version 2004 and 2007 - Respects mesh hidden edges. Cuts perfectly in revit views. Plan regions anywhere in the plan causes mesh to not cut at all.

  • 3D DWG or DXF version 2000, 2010, 2013 - Does not respect mesh hidden edges. Meshes show up in revit showing all triangles, thus are very messy and not legible. Consolation is that they cut, even when plan regions are used.

(hidden edges explanation: http://grevity.blogspot.com/2016/03/be-gone-sharp-edges.html?showComment=1459407977821#c581061486405...)

This is very problematic, since we do most of our complex design/modelling in other packages like 3dsmax, as meshes.

So, do I need to remind you that this is a user help forum? Most of us come here for help or to help others, not to read complaints. The complaint department is down the hall to the left.

Wow. Not a problem for you so others should go elsewhere? Amazing.

Still grumpy are we? and not so warm.

Here's a warm reminder:

Greetings and a warm welcome to the Autodesk Revit Architecture Forum!

As a Technical Support Specialist for Revit, I spend time in the Community to help customers with how-to questions, technical issues, or to give feedback on other customer concerns.

I'd call my enquiry a 'technical issue' or 'other customer concerns.'  you pick.

So I guess my 'complaint' (or technical issue' or 'other customer concerns.' ) is valid after all, and, funnily enough, in the correct forum.

And another complaint in the improper forum. There is no one here to listen. Go to the product feedback page or the complaint department.
