Phasing Object Profiles

I am using Revit 2013 and I work mostly in interior buildouts. This has not been an issue before since I work mostly on smaller scaled projects but a recent project has given me trouble due to its scale. Ok, so say I am working on a floor and I decide I want to move the location of the stairs. The process for me goes:
-phase current stair to be demolished
-hole left over from floor profile is filled in with another slab
-use linework tool to hid new slab
-place new stair
-cut existing floor profile to accommodate new stair placement
-place new slab in existing to cover up new profile hole
- phase slab
-linework tool to fix views

This is my same process for wall profiles as well that aren't getting demolished. My question: I my current method the slow and long way around the problem or is there a faster way to work with existing profiles. Is there a way to change the profile of an object in a later phase that does not affect the profile in the existing phase? Is that feature in a newer version of Revit or am I just dreaming?
