opacity maps in Revit

I am trying to use an Opacity Map in a Revit 2013 material.  However, it seems to modify all materials of that category rather than the specific material (ie: Chrome, Polished) - same thing happens even if I duplicate and rename a material.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I am trying to create a perforated metal screen panel for a curtain wall and an opcity map seemed the logical strategy

normaly from: Material Browser > Metal ...>Appearance > Cutouts > Types ...there are some predefined shapes or you can choose a custom one - a black and white  alpha map.....should work

Materials in Revit use Assets to describe how the material "appears" in Rendered views. (and also for physical properties ans Thermal properties)

One single Apperance Asset can be shared by many named materials.  That way, your Chrome-polished apperance can be consistent in several named materials.

In your case, you need to Duplcate the Asset, and give it a new name, then Edit the opacity map of that asset, and then apply that to the named material.

Simply duplicatiing the named material will still use the same asset. Editing that asset is affecting more than one material.

Hope that makes sense!  if not, respond back here and I'll try and clarify.
