I am wondering what is the easiest way to add notes to the floor plan. I want to a numbers or letters to the floor plan like symbols then have a legend saying what each number/letter means.
You can do this with the note block feature of Revit. You create a generic annotation family which has a lable for your symbol and then another parameter for the note you want to appear in the legend. Then create a note block and point to this generic annotation.
Attached is an example file with a note block so you can see how it is done.
Thank you! I went to schedules-note block and added that and now I am trying to create a generic annotation family but I think I must be missing a step somewhere. I did New-Family-Generic Annotation then made a polygon with line command then inserted label. I wasn't sure what to do with the parametrs, I created a new one and changed the dicipline to text and kept it as a type not an instance. is that correct? I went to place it on the floor plan and the label comes up as ? so I changed it to an A. How would I get this annotation to correlate with the note block? I must be missing something. Thanks for the help!

You need to create 2 parameters in the family. 1st parameter is for the number or letter or whatever you are putting in the symbol. the 2nd parameter is for the actual text of the note that will appear in the note block. Both of these parameters will be instance parameters. Now create a label in the family that is connected to the 1st parameter. Draw whatever geometry you want around the label. Now the family is done. Load into the project.
In the project place a couple instances of the family using the "symbol" command from the annotation tab. Fill out the number /letter and on the properties palette fil out what you want the text to be. Now create a note block from the view menu (it is a pulldown under the schedules button.) Select the family you just loaded and place d in the project as the family for the note block to look at. Add the number/Letter and the text note parameter from the list of avaliable parameters.
Place the noted view and note block onto a sheet.
