Multiple Sheet Sizes, Various Scales

I'm looking to produce multiple plans for each floor based on discipline and sheet size. I am a facilities manager who only needs to publish architectural, space (hatches by department), and telecom floor plans - each on Letter, Ledger, and E1 sizes.

I understand that I'm going to have to duplicate each plan for the different disciplines. I've actually done that with a shared parameter so I can sort by discipline then type.

I'm getting stuck when it comes to the different sizes. Is there a way to make dependent views with different scales? That way I don't need to manage 3 views for each floor - per discipline. I don't want to have to sort the browser by discipline, type, and then scale - it seems like too many categories to drill down.

How do architects do this for 1/2 size plans?

The other thing I'm going to have to deal with is the annotations (room blocks and telecom symbols - with text). Does this mean I'm going to have to duplicate each annotation for all the sheet sizes? In CAD we're really only concerned with the annotation size on 30x42 and whatever it happens to be when we scale it down to ledger and letter sizes is okay. It doesn't seem like Revit isn't going to let me do that very easily.

Any suggestions? I'm almost ready to export to CAD and keep doing it the usual way but we really want to find a way to keep everything in Revit. Any sort of help is appreciated. Thanks!

A specific view can only reside on one sheet. So you will have to duplicate
the views, one duplicate copy for each sheet that you want use. Typically, I
create a working view where I do most of my work and as many sheet specific
views for annotation which are placed on sheets. My typical working plan
view is at 1/8", and then sheet specific views at 1/8", 3/32", and/or
1/16" depending on sheet sizes that will be used. I have created two
smaller sizes of room tags to be used with smaller scaled drawings.
Dependent views are used when you have a plan view that is to large to fit
all on a sheet it allows you divide the plan up so that it can span multiple
sheets.

Thank you for the response. I figured I'd have to do that. Autodesk should make it easier to produce drawings of different scale - maybe as a feature in dependent views.

how you think of diffusion and confusion,
make full callout in view, :)))
ok, you will have all scale.

I think you might've been closer to a solution when you asked how architect's produced 1/2 size sets. Obviously we don't create separate views of every plan at different scales, so we use page setups instead.

We set up our sheets (30x42) full size, and create a page setup that will print them as such. Then we create a second page setup, with a different sheet size selected (say 15x21), and set the scale to be fixed at 50%.

This works perfectly most of the time, as long as your OK with the print not taking up the entire sheet on your letter size paper (since E1 and letter have different length/width ratios). If you can't get past that, or want to have separate and distinct borders for each sheet size, you'll have to make separate views at different scales.

Now, the catch with this approach is that the annotation will not stay at the same size, it will scale in proportion to the sheet. That may be OK, though, because if it didn't scale down with the sheet, you'd probably end up with a lot of overlapping text and lines.

Good luck!

When it comes to half size, I simply print to Adobe PDF at full scale. Then,
I print to the printer to a half size sheet. This avoids setting up half
size in Revit.
