Hello,
I have a question concerning the monitoring of structural elements. The approach taken for my project is that certain structural elements, like the columns and structural floors, will belong only to structural and will not be copied in the architectural model. We will leave the structural model linked in at all times so that these elements become part of our model.
My question: should I/can I monitor these items without having corresponding elements in my model? I see how to monitor a structural column when I have an architectural column in its place in the architectural model, but what if I do not have a column at all and just want to be alerted when these structural items are modified?
Thank you!
I found a fair amount of info online (such as the following links) about the Copy/Monitor tool, but nothing regarding the monitoring of elements without copying or linking to an equivalent element:

Are there any elements in the structural model which would be impacted by changes to the Structural columns/floor which you do have in your architectural model (if so, you could setup monitoring between these elements)?
I am not aware of any way to monitor items in a linked model without first having a copy of it in the working model. I always copy monitor the structural grid. This gives me alerts as to when the grid shifts. With the alerts I then make sure my architectural columns are in the correct new location or if the structural linked column is still contained in a wall or chase.
As for the floors that are housed in the structural model I have coordination views, sections and other views if needed to make sure the structural and architectural models are in sync.
Hope this helps.
