model group fails

I have one user with one model that has a model group issue.  When inserting or copy/pasting a model group, the entities are visible but no longer are part of a group.  When creating a model group the Group command finishes but again the entities are individual rather than being part fo a group.  ANyone seen this?

Would it be possible to post a stripped down version of the file so that we can get a better idea of what is happening?

I'm not sure what I would strip out.  I did make a new view of the floor level and it performs better but still has some issues.  I can not bring groups from the family browser still but I can make groups that display properly
