Materials

Having some problems with creating multipal materials. If I create my "own" material then duplicate it to create a "2nd' version of it, the original one I created also changes. Is there a way to lock the previous create material?

It happens the same to me if I make Duplicate from the project materials, but if I load it from a library and I choose from Duplicate Appearance Name the option Keep Both , I can make changes in the second material independently from the first one....
