When I try to make a new material using a custom jpg, Revit crashes. Using REvit 2012. Anyone else have this problem?

OK, I have no problem with creating the material i want in 2011. I cannot create any new material whatsoever in 2012 with out the program crashing. This sucks.

I guess I must be the only one with this problem. Can't even get a response from the subscription help desk. Oh well, back to Sketchup. I should have known better.

maybe this link will help:
Also, did you call your reseller for support? You said you couldn't get a repsonse from the subscription help, so you did submit a Support Request and specify that it was Critical?
Anytime you have issues like this, i suggest you check several sources including Web, WikiHelp, Autodesk Support, and reseller. Save the link to RevitClinic as this is a great spot when issues like this arise.
Scott, I did finally get a response fom the subscription support that sent me to the same site you posted. I ran thru those items but the crash kept occuring. Hopefully, I will hear from them again soon.

Hi Thad,
I am not sure if this was ever resolved, we discovered something
similar in our labs. It occurs in 2011 and 2012 and seems to be an inherent
coding problem with Revit.
We would go into the materials editor create a copy of a current
material and then try to put a "new" texture on that copy, Revit
would freeze and then crash.
We found that if you go into the materials editor, copy a
material then go into "Render Appearance" tab, click on the drop down
arrow icon to display shape options and render quality options, close this drop
down without changing anything. Then replace the material, Revit will not crash
and will also not crash on any subsequent changes.
Opening that drop down must activate some coding that causes the
material editor to work correctly from that point on, in that file. If you
close out of the file and Revit and reopen revit with that file or a new one
the problem exists again until you open that drop down. This should be an easy
fix for Autodesk to implement.
If the crash \ hang still occurs after applying Revit 2012 update 1, could you please attach the journal from the session Revit crashed to this thread?
If possible you can close Revit, launch Revit [which creates a clean journal file] and navigate to the materials \ render appearance dialog where you experience the crash.
If reproducible, simply copy and attach the journal file created at the location here:

Thank you,
Thanks Richard. The problem went away when i installed the update that Ryan referred to.
