mac + revit

Thinking of moving to a mac + thinking of moving from ADT to revit. With parallels and or bootcamp and the intel chip I've read that some autodesk users are doing this. So I posted over at the Architecture 2008 (ADT 2008) forum..... some queries about doing this.

I got this reply from David of Autodesk Support.

"Well that's untested and not supported at this time. While it may work
for you; you may also experience Licensing or Activation issues in this
setup that Autodesk cannot address effectively as it depends on the
behavior of bootcamp or parallels."

So I guess the question is has anyone experience with this issue? Can revit be installed on a mac and not have Licensing or Activation issues?

Any thoughts and or comments?

do a search...others have posted similar.
from what I've heard, Revit screams on the Intel-equipped Mac with no
downside
....all hearsay and conjecture mind you
but haven't heard of any problems.

as far as your move from ADT to Revit...

I think Phil Reed uses a Mac powerbook with Bootcamp....at least he did at AU... and he is one of the guru's of Revit, so if it is good for him, I am sure it would be good for the rest of us mortals!! 🙂

I have run Revit and ADT on macBook Pro with the following results.

1. Runs on bootcamp well, no issues whatsoever.
2. Runs on parallels, but continues to ask each time for activation.
Parallels says this is an Autodesk issue. However, my MS Office asks for
activation too, but allows me to continue, but Revit and ADT will not
reactivate after your 2-3 license tries.

The issue with Parallels is to allocate the correct amount of RAM to the
Parallels VM (it is surprising under 1GB - mine at 924 MB right now).
Parallels is more unstable than BootCamp in MY experience.

If you have a USB drive attached to the computer when you authorize
Revit it will sometimes write the license info the the boot record of
the USB drive as well as the main drive. This can cause problems with
the license if you disconnect the drive and run Revit.
