Layering elevations

How can I show elevations such that the background is lighter than the
foreground? I'm trying to layer two elevations, with the background view
set to halftone, and the foregroundview placed on top of it on a sheet. It
looks fine on the screen, but when I print, it processes the foreground
first, therefore the background view is covering the foreground view.

One technique (work around) is to create several elevation or section views for the same elevation, then change their depth of field (Far Clip Offset) to reflect the different positions in the depth. You can treat the farther depth with View Properties - Display Model - Normal or As underlay. This will give you the effect of building components in the foreground as normal and in the distance as greyed.

I set my view visibility settings to what I want the majority of the linework to read(using overides in the VV dialog box) then I use the line work tool on the rest to adjust the lineweights as needed.

I figured it out. The problem wasn't anything with how to layer the
elevations or applying linework. The foreground elevation was on top of the
background elevation, but when I printed, it would print as if it were the
opposite (ie, the halftoned lines of the background elevation would cover up
the foreground elevation), no matter what I did. Ther way to get it right
is to print with raster processing instead of vector processing in the print
settings.
