I can't answer with any authority, but I used mine to flag the exterior
elevation of a building. 1 thru 8 for siding, wood trim, aluminum windows,
soffit, etc. I copied #1 and created the rest. You can create a legend as
well.

How?
As in how to copy and create?

Same as any object in Revit.
Click any object, hit copy, drag and paste to new location.
Click on the new object, go into its properties and rename it.

Or

Click on any object, go to its properties and duplicate/rename.

How?
As in how to create the legend?

As Eric said in an earlier Keynoting post:
"View>New>Keynote Legend"

You can then drag the Keynote Legend (which will show up in your Project
Browser in either Legends or Schedules/Quantities, and drag it onto whatever
sheet you so desire.

You can also click on the object, Edit it in the Family Editor and add an
opaque background so that anything behind the Keynote rectangle gets the
white out treatment.

Cheers,
David

>1 thru 8 for siding.....

Sorry, this thing is back out again. Hoping it won't turn into a monster.....you mentioned 1 thru 8, Did you mean you had this thing numbered in your schedule? If so, how do you do it to label automatically?

Thanks

Keynotes are a way to clean up drawings to not have so much annotation.
Typically they are tied to spec numbering. So your drawing/details just
have numbers and then a legend on the sheet associates that number to
the particular description. This automates the modification of text and
reduces possible typographical errors because the descriptions are
maintained in one place.

ALl this ruckus about keynote started with a small comment I made in response to WotDat's query!

Its well explained by Obi-Wan 🙂

To stretch the concept :
drawing sheet space is a premium space and key notes also help save space.
The other application is what Obi-Wan mentioned.

parivartan, Sorry, I did'nt mean to make you feel like you've wasted your valeuable time on this query. I do want you to know, that I geatly appreciate your input (as well as everyone else's) and they are valuble info. With all due respect, When I posted this topic I knew what "Keynotes" meant but, just wasn't sure what it means in Revit term. I was searching to discover the essence of it applied using a BIM tool called Revit. Besides this Topic, i posted this, http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?threadID=471861, and
took Considerable time trying to come up with the Title so as to not confuse People who read it. Hence "Keynote,What Is It?"
Please don't be a stranger when you see my future topics.

Thanks for everything. All Responses to any of my Queries, regardless, are valuable and have helped me understand and enjoy Revit one way or another.
