Journal files

I don't quite understand Journal files. If I look in Program Files/Journals
there is a journal000033.txt. Each time I save a project the highest #
updates with the user and project names and alot of other info.

Where and how is this info used?

Thanks

It looks like it keeps track of information about your REVIT session.
Autodesk mentions it in this article in determining REVIT'S memory usage
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=8018966&linkID=3770375.

Journal files are used to restore the project in case that the main file
gets corrupted. By dragging a journal file over Revit's start-up icon you
should be able to open the project file as it was regular .rvt file. It is
also used by factory to determine crashes or any other irregularities.
