Hi everyone,
I exported a 3D Revit furniture model to DWG ACIS solids. Everything seams perfect in AutoCAD, but once I open the .dwg file in Rhino, some of the geometries become wrong.
Please see the image. Some of the surfaces become untrimed in Rhino.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank you!
Thank you for your post. In this case there is one alternate format to try when exporting this geometry from Revit to Rhino, DWF. I have included the information from our help file below on this communication. I hope this helps in moving the native Revit objects to the third party Rhino software. If this does not, I would also inquire to Rhino to see if they have a suggested alternative format for export from Revit to enable a fluid transition from one software to another.
Export a Revit model to Rhino
You can transfer the geometry in Revit models to Rhino by switching to a 3D view and then exporting the model using the DXF or DWG file format.
(Turn on the walls, but turn off the Masses or other categories) using Visibility/Graphics overrides.)
Thanks Michael for the reply!
I have tried exporting it .DXF format in 2010 and 2007 versions. However, neither of these versions transfers the model properly. The same problem persists. Only mesh model appears properly in Rhino, but I would like to work with solid modeling
Thank you for your reply. A few thoughts, one that the model is complex and unable to be manipulated by the Rhino software (not familiar with Rhino so I cannot say for sure and just going off the visual you attached), and the other is if there was another format to export to and/or translate. One thought to jump this over, could be use of the Autodesk Inventor software. Once in Inventor, there are a number of third party formats it could translate the data out to. Do you have a copy of this and if so have you tested this possible workflow to get a model in the Rhino third party?

One other suggestion would be to contact Rhino support as well to inquire about what they would suggest for best practice in this translation (or format for translation). I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I will try using inventor.
I agree it is a complex model, but some of double curved surfaces are imported nicely. The bad geometries seem to come from the objects created by multiple void forms.
I have attached the Revit file of the furniture, in case you would like to take a look.
